A Southern Spring... at Last!

"If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring
and stay that way later in the fall."

A Southern Coastal Dune Lake

A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature.
It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.
(Henry David Thoreau)

COASTAL DUNE LAKES
I took these photos this past week along Scenic Hwy 30-A in South Walton County.  Coastal dune lakes are found in only a few places in the world.... New Zealand, Australia, Madagascar, and Florida's Northwest Gulf Coast.   There are 11 of these coastal dune lakes along 30-A; and Western Lake at Grayton Beach, Florida, is one of the largest.  The first two photos show the iconic view that greets everyone as they are driving into the Watercolor/Seaside communities.   The beautiful white sand beaches of the Gulf are just over the dunes you see in the distance in this first photo.  For more info about South Walton's coastal dune lakes, GO HERE.

I took these last few pictures this morning just after sunrise.   It was a beautiful, slightly foggy morning.

A Southern Garden - Point Washington, Florida

A lot of spring breakers all around the beaches this week, so my sister and I decided to head over to Eden Gardens on the bay side of Hwy 98 to enjoy some quiet time.  Weren't so many flowers in bloom yet, but the grounds were beautiful anyway and very well kept.... and there is the promise of beautiful flowers to come!!  I'll be back!!
